SBW commissioned first large scale air compressor for 100,000 Nm3/h oxygen (O2) capacity ASU.

Air compressor first in China for 100,000 Nm3/hr

Oxygen production Air Separation Unit

The first Chinese domestic developed air compressor in China to serve air separation units (ASU) with 100,000 Nm3/h oxygen (O2) capacity has been successfully tested at the Yingkou test base of Shenyang Blower Works Group Corporation (Shengu).

The compressor was developed by Shengu’s own team, and the successful commissioning is thought to mark China out as becoming one of the leading manufacturers of machinery for ASUs.

Until now, large-scale ASUs in China have had to rely on air compressors from overseas manufacturers.

Originally established in 1934, Shengu is a leading blowers and compressors manufacturer in China and has decades of experience. In fact, in 2011, the value of output of the company exceeded RMB 11bn (approx. $1.72bn).

Shengu put substantial effort and resource into the development of its new compressor, including more than RMB 700m to establish the test base, over RMB 40m in R&D, RMB 100m in the trial manufacturing of the machinery, more than RMB 20m in the steam and electricity in testing, and over RMB 30m in the necessary testing equipment.

The company is also the first of its kind in China to develop air compressors for ASUs of 40,000 Nm3/h O2, 48,000 Nm3/h O2 and 52,000 Nm3/h O2.

Future potential

gasworld understands that, as of 2015, the number of coal chemistry projects approved and pending to be approved by the government will require 70 sets of such air compressors.

Mr. SU Yongqiang, Managing Director of Shengu, noted that the successful development of the recent compressor project has increased Shengu’s confidence and ability in contracting major new research projects in the future.
